Missing glove
11.29.05
Song of the Day: Tess - Story Of My Life
Yesterday, I lost a glove.
It doesn't sound so dire, but this glove was a part of a cream colored Ralph Lauren glove/scarf/hat set. It was also what I wore to go with my cream/grey/light purple striped scarf.
My winter accessory wardrobe has been decimated by the loss of just one glove.
I will gladly accept donations in the form of the mittens and scarves and hats from the Gap right now. One set in each color they offer should suffice. I also want the green cable-knit sweater. And just about everything else they have in the store now. I don't know how it happened, but this season, the Gap has trumped Express as my favorite store.

Song of the Day: Nina Gordon - Tonight And The Rest Of My Life
Yesterday, after getting back to Chicago after spending Thanksgiving in Ohio, I whipped up a feast - tacos, guacamole, tandoori chicken, and peanut butter-chocolate-oatmeal cookies. Tonight I plan on making a hot hummus and feta cheese dip. The question is, who's coming over to help me eat?

Happy Birthday to my wrist ho!
11.21.05
Song of the Day: Roxette - Fading Like A Flower
A very happy birthday to my wrist ho J. Everyone go remind her that there are people who were born in the 90s, thereby proving that at the age of 22, she's old and decepit ready for a midlife crisis.

Reason-oriented?
11.19.05
Song of the Day: Madonna - Push
Yeah, so the "worst-case scenario" regarding my internet outage ended up not actually being the worst-case scenario. I'm not even supposed to have a connection right now, but it seems like karma is smiling in my favor. The idea of going the entire weekend without the internet sent me into panic-mode.
Shannon posted this quiz (scroll down) over on her blog, and I definitely don't think the results are entirely accurate (especially since I checked the box saying I do believe in the afterlife). However, my little sister had something sadly true to say about the quiz's claim that I'm 80% reason-oriented:
Defined Drama: Brooke, I'm sorry to break it to you but you are not reason-oriented
SlayTPG1: *dies* Why not?
Defined Drama: lmao because
Defined Drama: you lack common sense and make up for it academically
Sigh. She makes me want to hide my head in shame.
I apologize for the horrible spacing in this table; whoever coded it sucks and I'm too tired to figure it out. The little star at the bottom is supposed to be me; I actually think I fall more to the right of what the chart actually shows.
You fit in with: Humanism Your ideals mostly resemble that of a Humanist. Although you do not have a lot of faith, you are devoted to making this world better, in the short time that you have to live. Humanists do not generally believe in an afterlife, and therefore, are committed to making the world a better place for themselves and future generations. 0% scientific. 80% reason-oriented. | ||||

Broken internet
11.14.05
Song of the Day: Dido - White Flag
My internet at home has been broken for most of the weekend. I've never been so eager to get to school before. Best case scenario - it's something not related to my modem, and it gets fixed today. Worst case scenario - it is my modem, and it gets fixed Wednesday.
On Friday, I spent the afternoon and evening with someone who I used to be very best friends with but haven't talked to since high school ended. She just got engaged in October and was every bit the awesome person I remember her being. I'm adding her to my list of people I want to import to Chicago; her med student fiance has to pick a city to do his residency in. If I have my way, soon Chicago will be Brooke's People Land.
I went to Old Navy and bought four sequined wifebeaters in assorted colors and two hoodies in the softest material I've ever felt. I somehow only spent $40. That's way less than it added up to in my head, but I'm not going to overthink this.
I also bought Smitten hand cream from Lush, and my hands have never felt/looked/smelled better in my life. It has this soft, yet spicy, almond scent to it and I can't keep my hands away from my nose.
And just in case she doesn't look at the comments for the previous entry, I would like to inform the person who insists that she's not my little sister that I am the elite one, because I smacked her in the head with a bag of cheese once. Pwned.

Salsa clarification
11.08.05
Song of the Day: The MacKenzie feat. Jessy - Walk Away
I think some clarification is needed, since most people seem to get it wrong:
Watery tomato paste =/= salsa.
Giant chunks of tomatos, beans, onions, garlic, peppers, and corn = salsa.
Kthxbai.

Woot, Robbie!
11.04.05
Song of the Day: Ricky Martin - I Don't Care
Sometimes people are just so insanely awesome.
Remember how I was enthusing over getting Robbie Williams' new CD for only $11.99 on Amazon? Well, the estimated arrival date came and went, with no word about why it hadn't shipped yet. I went to the CD's page, and it had gone from saying that it shipped in 24 hours to shipping in 3 to 6 weeks. I fired off an email to Amazon, and they wrote back saying the new estimated arrival time was sometime in December.
While I was out shopping today, I stopped in the import CD store down the block from me to see if there was anything new in stock. I noticed that Robbie's CD was only $19.99, not a bad price for an import. I started talking to the guy behind the counter and telling him my Amazon problems, and finally said, "Screw it, I'm going to buy it here and cancel it on Amazon." Much to my surprise, he announced that since I was doing that, he would knock down the price for me. After he committed such an amazingly amazing act of kindness, he and I started commiserating about the sad state of music on the American charts and talking about upcoming European releases that we were looking forward to. Amen for gay men, because otherwise, there wouldn't be anyone else in the country who listens to the same stuff that I do.

City nights
11.03.05
Song of the Day: Christian Kane - LA Song
The daylight savings change has left me coming out of my late afternoon classes when it's pitch black out. Between that and watching Batman Begins this week, all I can say is, "DAMN, is my city gorgeous at night."
I'll even forgive Batman Begins for using the damn corncobs in their skyline shots.

Point Pleasant
11.02.05
Song of the Day: Thalia - The Mexican
I had way mixed up priorities this Tuesday.
I decided that a 13-hour marathon session of Point Pleasant was far, far more important than going to class.
Some people may remember how incredibly disappointed I was back in Februrary when Fox cancelled the show 8 episodes into the first season. Fox answered (some) of my prayers and released the full season on DVD. Much to my dismay, although it came to a satisfying stopping point, it also left many questions unanswered and burst the door wide open for a second season. Watching all thirteen episodes in a row was, quite honestly, exhilarating. The whole show was beautifully done, especially in the visuals department. I've also never seen four words completely change the meaning of a story the way "Thou shalt not kill" did. It's been over seven hours since the finale finished, and I'm still in a daze, barely able to think clearly about it.
I want to write out a laundry list of questions and unresolved issues I have and beg for some answers, but I plan on making a few people watch it, so this is going to remain spoiler-free. It's the worst feeling right now, that this fantastic story has been started and isn't going to be finished properly. I can only hope and pray and beg and plead that Fox pulls a Firefly and allows it to continue on in some other form, such as a movie, but it doesn't exactly have the fanbase behind it that a Joss Whedon project would (although Marti Noxon, the show's creator, was his righthand woman).
Actually, now that I think about it, the whole series was very The Secret Circle, right down to a sweet girl with evil parentage moving to a small New England coastal town. I wonder if Marti Noxon ever kicked anybody in the shins. ;)
