Harry Potter
11.30.02
I FINALLY saw Harry Potter tonight. Damn, was it good. I am now ready for the third movie. Be done with it already, I want to see it.
One of the previews tonight was for a movie where two guys chase after a kangeroo and try to get back money that was in the pocket of a jacket the kangaroo is wearing. Yeah, you heard me. No, I don't know why the kangeroo is wearing the jacket. Nor do I know why someone actually decided writing and producing this movie would be a good idea.
I have an 8 page paper due Monday and a 3 page (single-spaced) paper due Tuesday. Has either been started? No. Is either going to get written? Not if I have anything to say about it.

Semiformal pictures
11.28.02
I got my first roll of semiformal pictures back today, I'm really happy with how they turned out. I won't bore you with hundreds of pictures of me and my sisters; my dad cracked up and said that the "sorority pose" seems to be girls leaning their heads against each other and smiling (see this picture of me and my lil for an example). Here is me and my date, my best friend Matt. He's a cutie. I'm cuter. ;)

Impossible Princess
11.27.02
Since I listened to Kylie Minogue CDs all the way home from school on Monday, I decided to change the picture on the left. Buffy got a two month reign, it's someone else's turn. I played with the colors a lot in the picture; the original was really muted and boring.
I've decided to give each of the past ones a version title. This version is called "Impossible Princess". It's the title of her 6th album; nobody liked it very much. My uncle calls it the "wrist slitting album", and when he went to order it for me in a London CD shop, the girl behind the counter wanted to know why he wanted it. It's not a bad CD at all; it's just incredibly different from her 80s pop, and not exactly what Kylie fans were looking for. I do think I'm an impossible princess sometimes, so the title works.
I don't know what I'm calling the past two versions yet, and I haven't updated the site history yet. That'll come tomorrow. Probably.

Random announcements
11.27.02
In case anyone's wondered, I gave up on the write-a-50,000-word-novel-in-a-month gig. When I got sick, I lost interest in doing anything except sleeping, and I lost my stride after that. *sighs* As Melantha reminded me, there's always next year. And I do plan on finishing the novel I started, just not now.
I added several opinions today:
Books: Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles
Music: Tina Cousins
Video Games: Kingdom Hearts and Suikoden
I really need to read more books...the list I have of books I want to read is huge. This summer, after Victoria's Secret blew me off, I was pretty much reading a book a day. With two weeks of classes left, hopefully I'll be able to do that again soon.
I can't decide if exam week is going to be good, or if it's going to suck. I, unfortunately, have an exam scheduled for the last day in the last time slot, so I won't be going home early. I only have one exam per day though, so I won't be overloaded with studying. Especially since I plan to get it all done early so I can sell my books ASAP. Last year I waited and was stuck with books they wouldn't buy back.
Have I mentioned that we have 22 hamsters right now? They won't stop reproducing. My sister took a litter to a pet store today, but they only buy from their own breeder. Thank god there are about 40 other pet shops in the city we can try.

Puppy hugs
11.25.02
Since I've last been home, our Akita puppy, who now weighs as much as I do, has learned a new trick. If he sees two people hugging, he'll jump up and put his paws on your shoulders, like he's trying to be a part of the hug too.

I won. ;)
11.25.02
Last night, I was officially elected Vice President of Scholarship for my sorority. Yay!
I'm now packing to go home for Thanksgiving break. I can't get there soon enough.

Drunk boy on my floor
11.24.02
I'd like to amend that last post. Drunk boy is passed out on my floor, while Matt is sleeping on the futon. I guess my room is now the Offical Doug Sleeping Place.

My futon is suddenly everyone's bed
11.24.02
Loyal readers might remember the drunk boy on my futon about a month ago. This weekend, my best guy friend, Matt, is staying here since he took me to tonight's sorority semiformal. Doug, the drunk boy, is here again this weekend too, and today he knocks on the door, comes in and sees Matt sleeping on the futon, and goes, "Someone's sleeping in my bed!"
Semiformal was a blast. It was held in a banquet hall in this place that looked like a castle. Matt's goal for the night was to embarass me, and I was very determined to not let him win. Then towards the end of the night, when he was dancing like a dork with his tie around his forehead, I went, "I do NOT know you!" Yeah, so much for not letting him win.
I'll hopefully have pictures in a few days.

Silly me
11.21.02
I got laughed at today. Want to know why? I made sure I slept on my back during my nap. And why's that? Well, I have on red lipstick today, and it doesn't come off until I wash my face with lots of soap, and I didn't want it to smear all over my pillow and my face.
*I* thought I was being smart. Ends up I was just being silly.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELANTHA!

Neon hair
11.20.02
Last night I decided my hair needed a kick, so I washed it with this color-depositing shampoo I used back when my hair first went red and was really dark. The color lately has been light auburn with lots of blonde highlights. Well, I think the shampoo turned my hair neon. Okay, so that's an exaggeration...kind of. It's especially neon around my face where I have chunkier highlights. I'm not panicking...YET. Washing with regular shampoo lightens it; back when I decided I wanted my dark red hair to lighten up, I simply stopped using the red shampoo three times a week and it lightened up really quickly.
In the event that my hair stays neon (although it is rather cool), I plan on placing a panic call with my uncle and making him fly out. I do think I'll continue using the red shampoo, but I just won't put it near my face (hair around your face absorbs color very easily) OR leave it on for ten minutes (yeah, the directions suggest leaving it on from two to five minutes. I left it on while I shaved my legs. Oops).

I don't have enough clothing
11.19.02
Before I start my rant, I'll just mention that I added a book opinion for Anne Rice's The Witching Hour. Although really, that's a rant in itself. A very distraught one.
So my big complaint every morning is that I don't have anything to wear. I feel like I'm wearing the same things over and over again. Well, today I realized that I have at least four pairs of pants I recently bought that I haven't worn yet. And then I noticed that I can't get to the back of my closet because everything is jam packed so tight that I can't move the hangers along the bar, and it's impossible to see what each shirt is without pulling it out. And I also have two huge sweater bags filled with sweaters and other long sleeved shirts that I can't fit anything else into, because they're already splitting down the sides. I can barely shove them in under the futon, and I don't have anywhere else to store them.
So yeah, I guess I do have enough clothes. I just can't SEE it all.
And I'm trying to remember my New Year's resolution that I made last year. It's to not wear jeans every day, because that gets BORING, and I have all these wonderful pants that just sit there in the closet. The one thing I hate about college is that when you dress up (dressing up is wearing anything besides jeans and a sweatshirt), people ask you what the special occasion is.
I also hate the winter, because I have 50,000 skirts that I wore all summer that I can't wear now. And they're all so pretty and feminine, and it's just NO FUN that I can't wear them now. Same with stiletto heels. It's rather impossible to walk from here to Olscamp Hall in stilettos. I need some pointers from Sarah Jessica Parker. She said she can run a marathon in her Manolo Blahniks.
And that's another thing I need -- money. Lots of it. It would give me an orgasmic happy to be able to spend $500 on a pair of shoes and not feel guilty -- or broke -- about it. I envy Sarah Jessica Parker's shoe collection. And her alter-ego Carrie Bradshaw's whole closet. If anyone would like to donate to the Buy Brooke Lots of Shoes Fund, let me know. I'll set up a paypal account or something.

Vote for me again
11.18.02
An update on elections; tonight, along with the VP of Scholarship position I'm running for, I was also nominated off the floor for Treasurer and Historian. Quite a surprise. Mind you, if I get Treasurer, I'm gonna have to learn how to count.

Tonight starts the election process for sorority positions. I'm a candidate for Vice President of Scholarship. Vote for me.
There's a new book opinion up, for Philip Pullman's Sally Lockhart trilogy.

Alcoholic personality
11.16.02
According to this site, I am a Strawberry Daiqueri. It says, "You're the person that everyone just wants to have sex with. Nothing more, nothing less."
And that certainly seems to be the case. A certain ex-boyfriend who just bought his girlfriend an engagement ring (after she rudely pestered him for a promise ring, no less) said to me, "You and I need to have a fling before I go through with this."
Yeah, great, I'm FLING GIRL. Asshole.

Falling
11.15.02
My stupid act for the day:
Our beds in our dorm room are lofted about 6 feet above the ground. This, as many college students know, provides more room in the already tiny closets we live in. There's a futon under my bed, and my roommate was laying on it while I was taking a nap. I woke up, and went to swing myself around (the ladder is where my head is, so I have to turn around to get down), and somehow managed to fall off. My poor roommate was watching TV and suddenly saw me sail down and land in front of her.
It was a rather rude awakening, eh? I thought I escaped injury; I landed on my tailbone and right foot, and as hours go by, the left side of my ass and my right two littlest toes hurt more and more. I can barely even walk on my right foot now. *sighs*

Ignorant people
11.13.02
I was reading this complaint the other day that Americans don't know much about what's going on in other countries. The person who wrote the editorial said that Americans are all horrified if a plane crashes and kills two Americans, but if the same thing happens in another country, to people who aren't American, then Americans don't pay attention, or care.
I thought it was a pretty strange complaint, since *I* read the news articles online every day to find out what's going on in the world. I also actually like CNN. Then the other day I mentioned the hostages in the Russian theater that had been taken over by a group of Chechens, and my roommate had NO idea what I was talking about. I asked other people at school about it, to see if this ignorance was just an isolated incident, and no one had any clue what Chechnya even WAS, much less why it was targeting Russia. *sighs* And now I agree. If a group of terrorists took control of a theater in the US and held over 800 people hostage, it would be the topic of discussion at the dinner table for weeks. Especially if the US government used a tranquilizer gas that ended up killing over one hundred hostages instead of just neutralizing the terrorists.
So here's a public service announcement: read the newspaper. Or at least check out Yahoo's little box with the daily headlines in it each day. It'll make you look smarter, even if you're really stupid.
My puppy is falling asleep while she's sitting up and staring at me. It's kind of funny.

Another day
11.13.02
Today brings an end to the sickness saga, I hope. I finally got antibiotics from the doctor, even though the tests came back negative. The doctor swears I have a virus that will go away on its own, but it's been ten days now and I'm not showing any signs of getting better. I never knew my body could make so much mucuous. Stop ewwwing at me, YOU'RE not the one who's blowing her nose every five seconds.
I'm going back to school tomorrow morning, I'm rather upset that I'm missing Paint the Rock night. All our new members have to paint the university's rock tonight, and it's just a given that they'll end up with more paint on them than they get on the rock. I made my roommate promise to take pictures of my Little. At least I won't have to worry about one of the new members accidentaly throwing paint on the older members, as it's happened in the past.

Blah
11.11.02
Nothing witty or funny to say today. I'm waiting for my strep and mono tests to come back from the doctor. Until then, expect a lack of happiness.
Two more chapters added to my NaNo novel (check the Fiction section). Current word count: 12,588. Where I'm supposed to be if I'm writing 2,000 words per day: 22,000 words. Yeah, I'm sucking. Royally.
I did write a whole page of my 3-page annotated bibliography for Criminology. One might argue that schoolwork is more important than National Novel Writing Month. I beg to differ. Really.

It's ruining our minds
11.10.02
This kind of conversation can only pass between two teenage girls when Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is the game of the week:
My sister: "I need some money."
Me: "Go kill some people."
My sister: "That won't get me enough. I need to go on a mission. Maybe I'll take out the security guards."

I'm a lesbian murderer who is missing and exposed
11.07.02
Googlism.com cracked me up tonight. It goes through Google and finds phrases on webpages that have your name on it. Or something like that, I haven't completely figured it out. Here are some highlights:
brooke is the web queen
brooke is looking pretty
brooke is missing
brooke is exposed
brooke is a lesbian
brooke is arrested for murder
brooke is gazing at the viewer as she unbuttons her shirt

Novel updates
11.07.02
Two new chapters of my NaNoWriMo novel are up in the "Fiction" section.
I'm at 9415 out of 50,000. I'm definitely behind; I blame it on my cold. Taking five-hour naps has been MUCH more appealing than writing.
I'm absolutely loving Freddie Prinze Jr. on Friends tonight.
And does else think that advertising the Star Wars Episode II DVD with the catchphrase "Yoda Da Man" is just wrong?

That, my friends, is why I am never getting married.

I'm done early...now what?
11.06.02
Okay, so I think I'm done with my astronomy paper. The thing is, it's not due for another two weeks. I've never finished a paper this early, so the question is, what now? Do I revise it continuously over the next fourteen days? Or do I ignore it now and work on the second stage of my criminology paper, which is due in sixteen days? Or my Minority Groups project that's due in 26 days? And there's a Deviance class group paper that's due in 29 days, and I want to KILL my group. They're not interested in starting on it yet. I'm the only female in the group, I think that's where the problem is.
I also have an abnormal psych paper to write, it only has to be three pages long, but the professor has neglected to tell us when it's due.
Or maybe I'll just forget all of that for now and do fun things. Like play video games. I haven't done that in a while.

Astronomy paper woes
11.06.02
I have written 7 1/2 pages out of my 8 page astronomy paper, and I have absolutely no clue what to fill that last 1/2 page up with. I've BSed my intro and conclusion as much as possible. I'm writing about the search for aliens. Seriously. It actually frightens me how much money and effort is put into it. I'm not talking about UFOs or alien abductions or X-Files crap, but the labs that are set up all over the world that listen in on radio frequencies. We've actually heard a signal that was possibly from intelligent life elsewhere, it's called the "Wow!" signal that was detected at a lab at OSU. It was never repeated (since the radio telescope that found it has such a narrow bandwith, this was expected), so it wasn't considered concrete proof.
I'm tempted to use my uncle's suggestion and fill the rest of the paper with information about illegal Mexican aliens.

7,000 words and counting
11.05.02
Quick update before I head to dreamland:
Chapters 1-5 of the NaNoWriMo novel are up in the "Fiction" section (which is still awaiting a creative name). The chapters I had up before are slightly edited. Victoria is now an underwear thief.

Toliet snakes
11.04.02
This is my little sister's away message. I am intrigued, and a little disturbed:
"I walked into my bathroom to brush my teeth and i heard something in the potty so I opened the lid...AND THERE WAS A FUCKING SNAKE IN THE POTTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

No morning classes!
11.04.02
I don't think I mentioned before: the NaNoWriMo novel is being posted under the new "Fiction" link. Will have to come up with a more creative title for that when my brain isn't fried.
I just registered for classes, and I don't have a class before 12:30 MWF or 1:30 TR. Absolutely perfect.
I added an opinion on Christina Aguilera's new CD in the music section.

NaNo Novel up
11.03.02
I'm in the process of putting up the first chapter of my NaNoWriMo novel. It's a paltry 4,040 words out of the target 50,000, but it's a start. (EDIT: I split it up into 3 chapters, since it was so frickin' long)
Bad things: I'm exhausted, I'm scared of the dark now because of The Ring, I overcooked the pierogies I was heating up and they turned hard as a rock, my astronomy homework answers are a joke, I think I have a cold, one of the independents (non-sorority members) in the house failed to do her kitchen duty so I now have to fine her, and Joseph went back to Georgia.
Good things: This upcoming weekend is a three day weekend, I don't have any exams this week for the first time in forever, and Angel was really good tonight compared with the rest of the season.
There are far more bad things than good things. That sucks.

Movie weekend
11.02.02
I've seen two movies this weekend; one scared the crap out of me and one bored the crap out of me.
I saw The Ring with Joseph last night, and ohmylord was it freaky. I was jumping at shadows on the drive home. It is absolutely the freakiest, eeriest, most out-there movie I have ever seen. The only reason I fell asleep last night was because I had to go play designated driver at 4 in the morning and go all the way down to OSU's campus, which is ironically right by where we saw the movie at. After making that trip twice, for the movie and to pick up Shannon, I passed out in bed right away.
Tonight I saw I Spy with my parents, and it was pretty much just an hour and a half of Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson talking REALLY fast and REALLY loud at the same time. I thought Owen Wilson had some pretty dumb lines.
I'm up to 2148 words out of 50,000 in my novel. I am slacking way behind Melantha and Tara. I blame it on the fact I've only spent about an hour working on it. Melantha says she's running out of steam, I WILL catch up with her!
I posted a new hot guy in the I'm In Love section a few days ago. Check it out and swoon.

Giving up my life for a month
11.01.02
Today starts NaNoWriMo, which means that I can start writing my novel. I haven't had TIME yet, and I'm really excited about it. I'm making the drive from school to home as soon as I pack up, and I just wish I could spend those two hours writing. I need a computer that writes down words as I talk to it. THAT would be fun.
And I don't get to work on it tonight, since Joseph is coming back to Ohio for the weekend and I'm seeing him tonight. I DO thank him, though, for deciding to spend Saturday with his family and his friends, since that means I'll have aaaaall day to write. ;)
And Big/Lil night rocked...my lil is the most kickass person in the world.
