Random Thought #2

If Americans are sooo obsessed with dieting, why is America one of the fattest (THE fattest?) countries in the world? You'd think that with all the dieting we do, we'd be walking around looking like toothpicks.

Avril at the MTV Awards

08.30.02

Watching the MTV Video Music Awards. Avril Lavigne just won for best new artist, or something like that. And what does she wear to the awards show that is notorious for the outrageous costumes it brings? Her traditional wife beater, tie, and striped armband. I am struck with the realization that I have NEVER seen this girl wear ANYTHING ELSE. It's like the Seinfeld episode where Jerry dates a girl who wears the same black and white dress every time he sees her. I must raid her closet and steal her armbands and ties. She'll freak.

Progress Report

08.29.02

As much time as I have spent working on this page, I hardly feel like anything is done. The "about me" page is complete, for now. I've started gathering links. I've made my popup menu for the opinions section look pretty. Haven't started working on content for it. *sigh*

The week has gotten much better, I got my parking pass into my car before any tickets could be placd on my windshield. I like most of my classes, but more on those later.

This entry is dedicated to Shannon, who talked my ear off for an hour this evening.

Random Thought: You can't walk like a lady in flipflops.

Bad beginning...let's hope the week gets better.

08.26.02

Oh lordy, have I had some experiences since school started. First there was the futon incident (we finally got it put together, and it hasn't fallen apart yet. Amen). Then, yesterday, I went and picked up my parking pass for the campus parking lot. When I went to put it out in my car, I realized that I had left my car keys in my parents' Jeep, which was now back home, a full two hours away. SO, while my dad expresses me my keys, the car is a complete target for parking tickets. And even though I talked to the parking department and they assured me I'd be fine, I'm SO SURE I'm going to find tickets waiting for me.

Today I went to buy my textbooks. I went to the university bookstore since it's right next to my last class of the day. To begin with, they didn't have half the books I needed. Then when I went to check out, they informed me that they don't take American Express. My AE has a $400 limit that I'd left clear just for textbooks. So I ask the cashier to split the purchase up over two credit cards. I've been working behind a cash register at various places for the last 4 years. It's not that difficult. My first card goes through, and then the second card makes a message pop up telling the cashier to call the credit central and get an authorization code. That's no big deal; you do exactly what it says and the transaction goes through. WELL, this guy freaks out and starts pushing every button on the register. The computer fritzes out in the middle of my transaction, and it takes him forever to get someone over to help him out. They decide they have to do two separate transactions instead of using two forms of payment on one, because according to them, "You can't do it your way." Uh...yes you can. WELL, now my credit cards won't go through. The manager spends 15 minutes on the phone with the credit card company, and comes back and tells me they can't help me and I'll have to figure it out myself. I'm all worried that the $200 on the first credit card went through, since they never officially voided it, and she's sitting there telling me "fuck you, you lose."

I stormed out of there, shocked by their lack of customer service, called my credit card company to straighten things out, and went to the bookstore across the street. Spent $558.34. I have 6 classes, but ended up with 10 textbooks. Figure that one out. The bookstore across the street was much less crowded, cheaper, and the older people working there were so accomodating. Plus they took American Express. :)

*Takes a deep breath*

I'm okay now. Really.

Die, f'ing futon!!

08.25.02

Moved back into the sorority house today. My roomie and I started assembling our new futon at 9pm. It is now 1 in the morning, and we're not finished. Not only is it unfinished, but we can't unfold it to finish it because the part the mattress sits on is UNDER the frame. Which means we're either going to have to unscrew something or throw it out the window. I'm voting for the throwing option.

Procrastinating

08.23.02

I'm supposed to be packing my stuff up to take to college with me tomorrow. Noticed I said, "supposed to be". What am I doing instead? Taking a bubble bath, reading a new library book, and working on my website. Most of what I have to pack is clothes; all the college stuff I brought home at the beginning of the summer is still sitting in boxes in the basement.

Last night the electricity went out for an hour and a half. Losing the power always reminds me what an idiot I am. I sat there thinking, "Damn. Well, if I can't work on the webpage, I could just type up things to send when it comes back on...oh, wait, can't type, the entire computer is dead. Okay then, I'll play video games while I wait for it to come back on. Dammit, nevermind..." And then I walk through the house with a flashlight, automatically hitting light switches when I enter a room, even though I know they're not going to turn on. I'm so brilliant.

Avril is NOT punk...just a copycat.

08.22.02

Just saw Avril Lavigne's new video for the song Sk8er Boi (Notice the very "cool", very "anti-Britney," very "not molded by record labels" spelling). The police come for her when she sets up stage in the middle of a city and starts singing for a moshing crowd. In the latest Rolling Stone magazine, she insisted that she's never called herself punk. Ahhh, I see. She's not punk, she's just a Limp Bizket copycat.

STILL working...

08.22.02

I've spent too much time working on the way the page looks that I haven't even started working on what's actually here for you to look at. And I need a site title. Any suggestions?

Tonight I went to Bike Night at the Quaker Steak and Lube with my dad. His newest obsession is his brand new Honda Shadow motorcycle. There were at least a thousand bikes there; it was this vast sea of shiny colors. I never imagined there were so many motorcycle owners in Columbus. And the people were so varied, from your typical "bikers", to people that reminded me of my parents, to little old ladies and their husbands. My own grandmother thinks it's horrible that my parents got a bike; for some reason, she thinks they joined a motorcycle gang and are going to lose their arms and legs. This was after I told her they went riding with people from "the office". As in my dad's workplace where they wear suits and ties every day. I guess "the office" became a euphemism for "gang" when I wasn't looking. My bad.

New site, do a happy dance

08.20.02

Looks like I'm getting everything up and running here. A woo and a hoo. Don't mind the unfinished layouts or the random broken links over the next few weeks as I get used to working with HTML and the such again, and as I build up my content.

It shouldn't take TOO long...I haven't been sleeping well since I saw Signs...I actually waited until the sun rose the night I saw it before I could peacefully close my eyes. The past few nights have been spent with the TV and a nightlight on. Go ahead and laugh; I don't handle being scared very well.

SO, since I do thrive on feedback, let me know what you think of the layout (the pink might have to change soon...it's starting to hurt my eyes). If you want to be mean, just be aware that I will kick your ass.
