Still mute

02.28.04

So I finally was able to speak above a whisper, decided to talk too much, and lost some of it again. You'd think I would know better, but of course not. I'm hoping by Monday I'll be fine.

I'm looking forward to Spring Break in a week and a half when I get to go to Washington DC to visit my cousin and her baby. He was born in July and I still haven't met him! It'll be a good time seeing all my family members who are out there.

Next weekend should be an strange one, Will and I are going to Ah-nold's body building thing here in Columbus because Will's friend who is a police captain in Chicago Heights acts as one of Ah-nold's body guards there each year. He said the changes in security due to Ah-nold now being a govenor should be interesting. We'll see how that goes.

Can't hear me?

02.23.04

So I've definitely come down with a case of laryngitis; my voice is gone. It's been gone since Saturday and I'm hoping it doesn't continue much longer, since I'm getting really sick of this mime thing. My phone has rang a few times and I just look at it helplessly since there's no way I'm able to communicate over it right now. My boyfriend is also having way too much fun making fun of me.

The series finale to Sex and the City last night was pretty satisfying, with Charlotte finally getting her baby and Carrie ending up with Big (who knew he had a real name?). However, this marks the end to what's left of decent television...with the WB's announcement that they plan to cancel Angel after this season despite it pulling in higher ratings than ever, I'm pretty much not going to have a reason to turn on the t.v. ever. I'm sick of the crap that's on, especially the reality stuff, which the WB apparently feels is more profitable than Angel is. Hopefully Joss Whedon will shop the show around to other networks as he did when the WB made this same decision about Buffy, but regardless, television sucks and the only reason I need one is so I have something to play video games on.

Good news

02.21.04

I am pleased to announce that I have received decisions from two law schools so far and that they both want me. They're not the ones in the top 20 that I'm sweating over, but it's very nice knowing that Loyola LA and Southwestern (also in LA) think that I'm a prime candidate for their programs. Now the other five can just hurry up and let me know...

In other news, my sister decided to give our yorkshire terrier a haircut. The end result makes me sure that someone is going to see Buffy in the backyard and call the animal control center thinking they've found some new, wild species of overgrown rats. No one can get over how strange she looks. Something tells me Lindsay should stick to drama and leave the hair cutting to our uncle (who recently was one of the hairstylists present at Oprah's 50th birthday to do all the big shots' hair).

Drama

02.19.04

Amen to friends who always ask and care about how you are, even when they have their own news and problems to share.

At least I have enough of those to balance out those few who have shown lately they really don't give a damn about anyone except themselves.

Valentine's Day

02.17.04

So for the first time in my life, I actually had a really good Valentine's Day. Will and I went with Amy and her boyfriend to a steakhouse and a comedy club. He bought me chocolate, so now I owe him my life and soul. Or something like that.

I bought him a book about mixing drinks and being a bartender, so now he has no excuse for not making me lots of good drinks all the time.

Warm weather...kinda

02.08.04

It's pretty pathetic when it gets to about 30 degrees outside and you start thinking, "Hey...it feels kinda nice out."

It's also pretty pathetic when SoCalers say, "It's not that warm here either, it gets down to about 55 at night."

I hate Ohio.

Don't forget your lyrics...

02.04.04

Now, I wonder. If you were about to perform for Simon Cowell to advance to one the 32 finalist spots, WHY would you forget your lyrics? This isn't just an isolated incident, I've watched about 10 minutes of the show tonight and everyone is just humming and stumbling. As Simon said, "If you sang like that in a karaoke bar, they'd shut the power off." And these people were supposed to be the better singers!

Greeks drink

02.03.04

So I'm reading in my drug book about how lots of drinking on college campuses happen inside frat and sorority houses, and I'm thinking about how Shannon told me that at OSU, they have parties inside their actual frat and sorority houses. All I can say is, holy shit.

I live in a sorority house at my college. If anyone ever tried to have a party in there and invite throngs of people I didn't know to drink beer and act stupid and potentially puke all over everything, I'd throw a fit. All the sorority houses here are "dry houses," meaning even if you live there and you're 21, you're not allowed to have alcohol. My sorority house is my home. I've lived there for two and a half years now. The idea of parties being thrown in my home just makes me freak out.

Some might think it sucks that at my school our Greek housing is considered "on campus" and is owned by the university. Sure, that means that we have certain rules, but for the most part, that makes me say "Thank God!" It's bad enough when my own housemates bring home drunk friends on Saturday nights who end up roaming through the halls lost. I couldn't imagine an entire houseful of them.

Ice skating...not my thing

02.01.04

Today I went ice skating with a bunch of my sorority sisters. All I can say is that it's nothing like I remember it being when I was little. I was one of those people clutching the side as I sloooooowly made my way around the ice rink. After two laps, I sat down and took my skates off, since being terrified of smacking my chin on the ice just wasn't sitting well with me.

When I was little, I used to go ice skating all the time with friends, and I definitely don't remember it being so scary. Maybe it's because I was a lot shorter and therefore had a lot less farther to fall. Maybe it's because little kids are made out of rubber; the kids I was watching today sure seemed to be. Nothing galls me more than kids under the age of 12 who zip around and crash like there's no tomorrow while I'm taking baby steps and praying I won't slip. One snot even pushed me because he was trying to get to his friend he was chasing. If I could skate fast, I would have gone after him and smacked him around.

Not that I advocate smacking kids, of course. While I was waiting in line to turn my skates back in, this mother was leaning over her two kids who couldn't have been more than 6. Her son reaches his shoe up to put it on the counter (since you have to turn your shoes in to get skates) and accidentely bopped his mom in the side of the face with it. It didn't look like he hit her that hard at all, and it certainly wasn't on purpose, but the mother started smacking his face over and over until he started crying. I started at her with a nasty face until she noticed me.
