10/21/2006: "Bright engagements"
Song of the Day: Robbie Williams - We're the Pet Shop Boys
I haven't seen the sun in over a week. It's been perpetually gloomy, and to make matters worse, it's only rained once. If the sky is going to be depressingly overcast, it could at least do what it normally does on overcast days.
There has been one bright point; Shannon's boyfriend proposed to her Thursday night. She asked me to be her maid of honor, and since I only cry at Very Important things, I promptly burst into tears. I'm looking forward to helping her plan and seeing if it makes her want to go through with her dream of being a wedding planner, or if it makes her want to get as far away from that career as possible.
Speaking of dream careers, I have discovered that the DEA has an Office of Diversion Control, where, even with my hearing aides (the DEA disqualifies anyone with hearing aides from being a Special Agent) I could be a Diversion Investigator who deals with the diversion of legal drugs into illegal channels. I've been interested in this sort of task since I worked a criminal defense firm that was defending a client in such matters. I never, ever let on that the entire time, I was daydreaming about how cool it would be to be working on the other side. I'm hoping that, if the FBI and ATF also close their Special Agent doors to me because of their hearing policies (I'm currently working on finding out just what their requirements mean), a position will open up here for me.

It sounds like there's going to be an hour-long television drama like "Law & Order: SVU" following the exploits of a young, hearing-aid befitted woman sometime in the future. My question is, when that happens, can I be the badass cop with the heart of a hero? Can I be your show's Christopher Meloni?Jeff, Saturday, October 21st
Well, I think this wedding thing is overwhelming. My Mom and I spent an hour looking at planning books, and as we left with 2, my Mom proceeds to tell me that she needs more. *SIGH*Shannon, Saturday, October 21st
No, I get to be Brooke's sidekick, Jeff. Your patriarchal notions of her needing a tall man with a "was ist?" expression will simply not fly in our liberated TV show. Also, we will be fighting crime in very scanty outfits, like bikinis, because we are Strong Powerful Women and we're Not Afraid To Show It.j!!, Saturday, October 21st
Didn't they already do that show? With some creepy guy in a speakerphone? ;-)Pootie, Sunday, October 22nd
What, I can't wear a bikini? That's sexist.Jeff, Sunday, October 22nd
