07/24/2006: "Classical XM"
Song of the Day: Daughter Darling - Broken Bridge
During my current visit to Ohio, I discovered that my dad had moved an XM radio from a car he just sold to the car that I borrow whenever I'm in town. I also discovered, with pleasant surprise, that XM has an entire channel devoted to classical music. Listening to Hummel and Mozart while driving around sure beat changing channels each time an offensive song came on (what is the logic behind a channel that goes from INXS to Avril Lavigne?). My only gripe is that all classical music is thrown together as if it's all the same genre - when there are hundreds of channels available, why not have channels that are devoted to each of the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods? It's sort of the same thing with the 'decades' channels - thousands upon thousands of songs are released each decade, and yet there's simply the 80s channel, as if one who likes one genre from the 80s likes them all. I guess I shouldn't complain too much, given that you'd never find classical music on the normal local radio stations.

There is a classical radio station in Columbus, 89.7 I believe. You just have to deal with commercials. :-)Shannon, Tuesday, July 25th
