12/02/2005: "Way too seriously..."

Song of the Day: Bananarama - Feel For You

During the last three and a half years that I've had this blog, I've seen some pretty dumbass stuff, like the coining of the stupid term "blogosphere" and the development of this self-importance among people who think they're hot shit because they put words on the Internet. But really, I think that this incident takes the cake:

I checked up on a blog I haven't visited in a few days, only to find that the author had put up a sign that she was shutting her blog down because her life is a wreck and she is hanging on by a thread, and her blog has something to do with this. I raise an eyebrow and go to her husband's blog, and he has up a similar sign saying that he is shutting down his blog because his self-esteem is in shambles and his marriage is in disrepair...and he, too, seems to be blaming his blog for this.

J and I spent a few moments musing over this, trying to figure out how a blog could have such an effect on someone's marriage and self-esteem. Finally, we just decided that they're dramatic and think they're much more important than they really are. I mean, it's a frickin' blog. Unless you're all up on how IMPORTANT you are in the BLOGOSPHERE in the eyes of other BLOGGERS, I don't see how your blog can ruin your marriage. Or why you would then turn around and blog about it. Really, that's probably one of the more amusing parts of this story.

I promise that you, my fair readers (or maybe just my fair friends, who knows who actually reads this thing outside of the people I bribe), will never happen across such notices here. I'm not dramatic enough to blame the deterioration of my personal relationships on my blog, nor do I take myself seriously enough to think that the "blogosphere" would really need to know such things about my life (you will notice that you can't tell when my dating relationships begin and end by reading through my blog archives, except when I start or stop mentioning somebody on a regular basis).

On another note, what the hell was up with the person on Blockbuster's website who rated Adam Sandler's Anger Management 4 1/2 out of 5 stars?

You know, you could've wrote this entry earlier in my quarter after I've been taking a class devoted to blogs! I could've used it in my analysis!

So... um, I know this is an awkward time to ask, but... I'll be needing the $20 you said you'd pay me for reading this thing...

...kthxbye.

DON'T PEE ON ME!
