11/02/2005: "Point Pleasant"

Song of the Day: Thalia - The Mexican

I had way mixed up priorities this Tuesday.

I decided that a 13-hour marathon session of Point Pleasant was far, far more important than going to class.

Some people may remember how incredibly disappointed I was back in Februrary when Fox cancelled the show 8 episodes into the first season. Fox answered (some) of my prayers and released the full season on DVD. Much to my dismay, although it came to a satisfying stopping point, it also left many questions unanswered and burst the door wide open for a second season. Watching all thirteen episodes in a row was, quite honestly, exhilarating. The whole show was beautifully done, especially in the visuals department. I've also never seen four words completely change the meaning of a story the way "Thou shalt not kill" did. It's been over seven hours since the finale finished, and I'm still in a daze, barely able to think clearly about it.

I want to write out a laundry list of questions and unresolved issues I have and beg for some answers, but I plan on making a few people watch it, so this is going to remain spoiler-free. It's the worst feeling right now, that this fantastic story has been started and isn't going to be finished properly. I can only hope and pray and beg and plead that Fox pulls a Firefly and allows it to continue on in some other form, such as a movie, but it doesn't exactly have the fanbase behind it that a Joss Whedon project would (although Marti Noxon, the show's creator, was his righthand woman).

Actually, now that I think about it, the whole series was very The Secret Circle, right down to a sweet girl with evil parentage moving to a small New England coastal town. I wonder if Marti Noxon ever kicked anybody in the shins. ;)
