10/06/2005: "You people make my brain hurt"

Song of the Day: The Corrs - Irresistable

I don't know why I do this to myself.

I frequent a video games forum, where I've always gotten useful information about whether new releases are worth buying, some discussion about the games themselves, and some help when I have questions about one of the games I'm playing.

Unfortunately, like most themed forums out there, there is also a "General Chat" section, where people tend to bring up stuff that they know nothing about and try to sound like they're experts on the matter. I try to stay away, I really do. I've managed to go cold turkey and boycott the General Chat section for months at a time. Somehow, I always end up going back out of curiosity. Yeah, I know that bit about the cat.

People love to start discussions about political things, law-related things, and other topics that are often best left to those who know more than jack shit about them. Given that I know a little more than most people on these matters (it comes with the law school territory), I often try to throw in my own thoughts. And almost always, someone comes back and tells me that I'm wrong, and gives a wickedly disasterous explanation of why.

After experiencing that again today, and feeling my law n3rd self twitch in pain over the misinformation being presented, I've decided, no more! I will let the internet idiots try to discuss topics that go over their heads amongst themselves, and I will laugh at them floundering in their ignorance.

I really, really want to leave a remark such as, "You people make my brain hurt," but I think I will leave being a pretentious bastard to people who are really good at it. :D
