05/24/2005: "New trance hit?"

Song of the Day: Dido - Sand In My Shoes

So it looks like DHT's Listen To Your Heart, a dance remake of the Roxette song, is starting to enter mainstream consciousness. It's the number one downloaded dance single on iTunes, which means that mainstream music listeners are realizing that there's more to dance music than DJ Sammy's Heaven, that song infamously lip synched by that fat kid online, and the Vengaboys.

My question is, why is it only the random 80s dance remakes that hit the top 40? The aforementioned DJ Sammy song is the perfect example of this. Take a Bryan Adams 80s song, turn it into euphoric vocal trance goodness, and suddenly the MTV crowd is acting like it's something new and exciting. Euphoric vocal trance goodness is not new, sorry.

Then again, if dance and trance become the next big thing after this stupid hip hop obsession that America has, I'll be pretty put off and you'll forever hear me insisting that I found it first, dammit! Fortunately (or unfortunately, however we might be looking at it), I don't think anyone else will ever understand the music I listen to. Sigh.

Brooke, I did A LOT of things first before the "cool crowd" picked up on it, like the whole wearing a fork around your wrist, a scarf for your belt, multiple tank tops...

..it was all me, I swear..

-sigh-
