05/06/2005: "The Phantom of the Opera is here..."
Song of the Day: Delta Goodrem - A Little Too Late
After an agonizing several-day wait, Blockbuster finally sent me The Phantom Of The Opera. Being a certified Phantom-junkie, I was dying to know how Hollywood treated the Broadway version of the story. The answer? Not too aggressively. It didn't break any new ground; it was a pretty faithful scene-by-scene translation to the movie screen. The only changes were minor and inoffensive - a swordfight between the Phantom and Raoul here, a change of when the chandelier drops there, some added explanatory scenes and lines to make it more movie-goer-friendly. The only real surprise was how young they made the Phantom. I was not expecting that at all.
I can't decide if I'm disappointed they didn't try something new, or if I'm downright relieved they didn't mess with what is already, in my opinion, absolute perfection.
In any case, time to leave behind that dazzling world and hit the books again. The two-week exam period hasn't even started yet, and I'm already sick of it all.
