02/21/2005: "Double-take"

Song of the Day: Dana Rayne - Object of My Desire

Double-take of the day: Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas is Stacy Ferguson from the group Wild Orchid and '80s show Kids Incorporated.

This may not seem like an earth-shattering revelation, but when I read the fact in this month's Self magazine, I dashed to my CD shelf and grabbed my two Wild Orchid CDs. Fergie has always struck me as very exotic looking, and I never thought her skin color was anything but that naturally tanned shade that always elicits my pale-skinned envy, but on the Wild Orchid covers, she seems quite pale and has bleached blonde hair. No wonder I never made the connection.

Man, when I was little, I thought the kids on Kids Incorporated were so cool. I always feel sorry for the kids of today who didn't get to grow up with the television programs that I did. No She-Ra? Unthinkable. No Carebears? Horrifying. Now Rainbow Brite is just some retro figure that's cool to put on t-shirts that you'd find at Hot Topic. That's sad. Way sad.

I still remember the first time my friends and I discovered Stacy and Renee were in Wild Orchid. Stacy was ALWAYS our favorite Kids Inc member, so it was a bit bittersweet to see what she had grown into.

But NOW, she's in the Black Eyed Peas and has the whole ghetto fabulous thing going on. Oh and it's Fergie, not Stacy Ferguson anymore.:(

No, this is not what I thought adorable Stacy was going to become at all, although I'm somewhat happy for her success. I guess that's Hollywood for ya.:(

I heard that a lot of true BEP fans were upset when she joined the roup. They thought it was a sellout to the teenie bop main stream. But if anybody has seen her dance in Hey Mama then they know better now. She is HOT!

I always loved Stacy best on Kids, Inc. bc she was so close to my age....I wish they'd start re-running those again, cheesy as they were. Remember when Wild Orchid hosted a lip-synching show for kids? That's when Stacy started becomming the Fergie we know her as today, with the ghetto style and all. Sigh.

*I* wear Rainbow Brite shirts. Ahem. :D

I also STILL have all of the dolls except the small version of Shy Violet, which I never owned (*lone tear*). Also, I had an elastic belt with a star/rainbow buckle like Rainbow Brite's, and I used to tell people in kindergarten that I had Rainbow Brite's special powers. HAVE I EARNED MY RAINBOW BRITE CRED NOW? Heheheh
