10/21/2004: "Really, shut up already"
The girl who lives in my apartment building and is also in my section at school is driving me nuts. Yesterday, on the way home, she did nothing but babble on and on about how she has no life except for reading for school, and how the memo that's due Monday (one of the big assignments in legal writing) is taking up all her time and how she's so stressed about it.
Here's the thing - she's a part time student, which means she doesn't have Contracts, which is the class that contributes a huge chunk of the reading assignments for the week. She also doesn't work, as part time students most often do, which means that after an hour or two of classes in the morning, she goes home to face a long day filled with no other responsibilities (except for her admitted addiction to the television). Meanwhile, all the rest of her full-time classmates are faced with a 2-to-3 hour break and then another hour or or two of classes in the afternoon.
What gives here? The guy who lives in our building and is also in our section doesn't think she realizes how bad it makes her look; apparently she complains to him a lot about her workload as well. As I mentioned in my last post, we don't have that much reading to do each week, and she has one class less to read for. Furthermore, even with my full-time workload and the 2 to 3 hours I've devoted each day to working on that damn memo, I have plenty of free time.
I've considered saying something snippy to her, but the last time I did that, the person I snipped at stopped talking to me (not that I cared, I was sick of having conversations that were exclusively about "OMG the engagement ring he bought is too small, OMG OMG, I hope the band isn't too wide since it'll dwarf the tiny stone, OMG OMG, why couldn't he have gotten .5 carats instead of .4, OMG OMG, he got a round stone, ewwwww, doesn't he CARE about me?" As far as I'm concerned, someone whose priorities are that screwed up is not worthy of my friendship.)
