09/16/2003: "Dr. King is a hoot"
The professor for my criminal justice class that deals with analysis of the police cracks me up. He was discussing the "Asshole Theory of Human Behavior" today, which is when your explanation for everything is simply chalking it up to someone being an asshole. Guy cut you off in his car? It's because he's an asshole. Someone does something stupid? It's because he's an asshole. Girl looks at you weird? Asshole.
As Dr. King pointed out after saying the word "asshole" about 20 times, this is a very bad way of explaining human behavior, and the person calling everyone else an asshole is usually the one who's the asshole.
Later on, he was telling us this story of a friend of his who is a cop in England. The cop had a problem with this homeless guy sleeping by their headquarters every day, and the chief would get pissed off at the cop for not being able to handle it. Apparently when it gets cold out, homeless people will stuff their clothes with newspapers or leaves to keep warm. This, however, makes them very flammable. So one night this cop and another cop see the homeless guy and are like, "Oh shit, the chief is gonna see him and get pissed at us, what can we do?" So they took some clothes and stuffed them with newspaper and set it down by the homeless guy. They wake the homeless guy up and pretend to wake up the dummy and start yelling at both of them. One of the cops takes out his lighter and sets the dummy on fire. The homeless guy took off and never came back.
And people say cops are dumb. :D
