04/18/2003: "Good books that end too soon"

One thing that sucks about having favorite authors who don't put books out often enough is that once you finally get your hands on their newest work, you've finished it in 24 hours and are left with another long, long wait. I rarely buy books (which you would never believe by looking at my room, but the proportion of books I own to books I read is very small), but I rushed out last weekend to buy Dan Brown's new book. In hardback, even. Twenty bucks for a book, it's a crime. But it was fabulous, absolutely fabulous. Now Guy Gavriel Kay needs to come out with a new book, and I'll be even happier. I guess a long wait is what I get when the authors I adore are ones who spend a year travelling and researching before actually writing anything. Which, ironically, is what makes their books so damn good.
