10/27/2002: "Rewind to the 80s"
Last night my sorority had a date party, and the theme was Rewind to the 80s. For a date party, everybody brings a date (whether it's a boyfriend or a best friend; there were equal amounts of male and female dates), and we rent out a club for the evening. Since it was 80s themed, everybody dressed the part.
I wore a spandex mini skirt that was the devil. Every time I took two steps it nealy crept up to show off my thong. Speaking of my thong, since the skirt was so spandex-y tight, you could see the outline right through it. This defeated the whole point of wearing a thong, which is so you don't see the outline of your underwear. Oh well. I wore this with a white t-shirt, demin jacket, and stiletto heels.
I don't know if anyone actually spandex skirts in the 80s, and I'm sure if they did, they wouldn't have worn stiletto heels with them, but I didn't have a lot to work with. My wardrobe is firmly grounded in the 00's. Or whatever you want to call them. When it WAS the 80s, I remember being very in awe of all the older girls who wore day glo and high tops. I wanted high tops so bad when I was little. I didn't get them. Another coveted accessory: those plastic shapes that you pulled the bottom of your shirt through to make a little tail that hung at your side. Nopes, didn't get one of those either.
I DID have several shirts with little mirrors puffpainted onto them. I thought I was hot stuff when I wore them.
Remember Dance Party USA? I worshipped the outfits the girls on that show wore.
So there I was Friday night walking from the car to the club in my more-hooker-than-80s outfit. In fact, if a cop had passed, I'm sure he would have picked me up for suspected prostitution. I did get looks from two groups of guys we walked past, who I told in a very loud voice that I did not normally dress like that.
The party itself was a blast, everybody went all=out. The guys were the best part, it was hilarious what lengths they went to to get costumes for the night.
