10/15/2002: "Damn imports"
Ace of Base apparently has a new CD out, and OF COURSE, it's only available overseas. What is UP with that? And of course when I'm in the willing mood to pay a little extra for imports at Virgin Records, they DON'T HAVE the CDs I'm looking for! The import section at the Virgin in Columbus, Ohio is a measly five feet long. And they have import copies of CDs that you can already get in the US. NO!! I want the snazzy Euro-pop junk that Americans don't seem to be able to digest very well. This includes the Spice Girls solo albums (I still need Emma's and Posh's), the new Atomic Kitten one, any kind of Belgian dance pop (Kate Ryan, La Luna), Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the future Robbie Williams albums that I predict will NOT be sold in the US, the second All Saints album, and thank HEAVENS Kylie Minogue is apparently here to stay, because otherwise, I would have to give up my American citizenship.
And it's not like any of these people wouldn't do well in the US saleswise. All you have to do is give the single to Clear Channel, and they'll play it on every radio station in existance 50,000 times per day, and then tell everyone to go out and buy it, and the American public will go, "Oh, okay, this is the next big thing, we're not being manipulated by the industry at all," and buy it, thereby sending it to the top of the charts.
I'm breathing, really.
