10/12/2002: "New Clothes Day"

Today my mom and I went to Platos Closet to do some shopping. For those who may not have one in their area, it's a thrift store marketed towards teens. I used to cringe at the idea of wearing other peoples' clothes, but one day I noticed my mom's closet was filling itself with some DARLING pieces. I asked her where she got them from, and she let me in on her little secret.

I ended up with ten shirts and two pairs of pants, all for $90. At first I balked at the total, but then I thought, "I have walked into Express and bought a pair of pants and one shirt and didn't bat an eye when the total was MORE than this. Multiple times." One of the shirts I got was even one from Express that I have wanted forever and ever, but never got around to buying. I also have a new pair of red pants, which I have wanted for a while, but haven't been able to find any that aren't obnoxious (I'm a classy lady. *g*).

My mom, by the way, now refuses to shop anywhere except the thrift stores in the city. She frequently comes home with something like an expensive, name-brand outfit that still has the tags on it and dances around chanting, "I got it for fifteen bucks!"

On another note, I just saw The Knockaround Guys with two of my girlfriends tonight. They didn't like it but I adored it. It sure didn't hurt that all four main characters are absolutely drool-worthy and more likely than not find their way into the I'm In Love section of the site. Which I WILL get started on. Probably once I'm back at school after Fall Break is over.

I LOVE thrift stores. there's no previously worn designer outfit that can't be sterilized in a trip through the washing machine. ;)

there's one near my mom's, that has a 20 cent rack. you would not BELIEVE the stuff that they put on that 20 cent rack. I have gotten designer items that look as if they're brand new, for 20 CENTS. if it was a choice between 5 packages of Ramen, or 5 pieces of new clothing, I'd pick the clothing everytime. :D

I don't care if a grotty BUM wore it before me - for 20 cents, if I'm that worried, I'll spray it with Lysol. *g*
