10/09/2002: "Scheduling"
Being the nerd that I am, I decided to outline my schedule for next semester the day that the information came out. It took me a few hours, because I had an annoying setback...
I'm in the honors program here at BGSU, and I have an advisor from the honors department and an advisor from the criminal justice department. I only saw my honors advisor last semester, and she filled out a new checklist to see how far along I was in the classes I need for my major. WELL, after staring at it tonight and wondering where the DHS classes I needed to take went, I realized that she had used the OLD criminal justice checksheet, and that was what I had used to make next semester's schedule. One of the classes I was going to take isn't even on the NEW criminal justice checksheet, which my graduating class is supposed to use. *sigh*
Despite that, I think I'm finally done. 18 credit hours again, since I'm a workaholic. It's the maximum number of hours we're allowed to take. I picked the following classes:
Research Methods: "Survey of research methods including research design, measurement and sampling, survey, experimental and field methods and data collection and analysis. Emphasis on interpreting and critically evaluating research for human services."
Interview & Observation: "Development of interviewing and observational skills used in working with diverse populations in human service fields. Examine interviewing from various perspectives for different purposes: clinical, forensic, organizational, and social."
Crime Prevention and Security: "A critical examination of crime prevention and security practices and approaches; emphasis on evaluating the effectiveness and problems of various approaches."
Procedural Rights: "Rights afforded to individuals who come to the attention of the criminal justice system. How these rights are created and rejected by the court system. Focus on the Bill of Rights, 14th Amendment, and Supreme Court cases."
Corrections: "Historical, philosophical, and sociological analysis of strategies and institutions designed to punish and change the behavior of criminal offenders."
And a CJ seminar on serial homicide. Is it scary if I'm excited about that one?
