10/06/2002: "Spanish idiots"

My hatred has a new target: the Spanish Conquistadors. As my astonomy book says, "Unfortunately, we know little more about the extent of Mayan knowledge, because the Spanish Conquistadors burned most Mayan writings." I've always been fascinated with the Mayan, Incan, and Aztec histories, and it absolutly kills me that the arrogant SOBs of the past ruined my chance of learning more about them.

It also makes me physically cringe when I think about the fire in the library of Alexandria and all the knowledge we lost there. I MUST be a nerd.

Along this same lines of thinking, I absolutely hate people who think that today's society is smarter and more superior than the people of the past. So many people are surprised when they learn how long ago certain discoveries were made. Why? Why can't people in 500 BC be smart too? I'm in awe of the creations and discoveries that were made so many years ago.

anyone who thinks today's society is superior, is an idiot - it doesn't take a whole lot of effort to look around and see the morons congregating on my--um, our planet.
