08/26/2002: "Bad beginning...let's hope the week gets better."

Oh lordy, have I had some experiences since school started. First there was the futon incident (we finally got it put together, and it hasn't fallen apart yet. Amen). Then, yesterday, I went and picked up my parking pass for the campus parking lot. When I went to put it out in my car, I realized that I had left my car keys in my parents' Jeep, which was now back home, a full two hours away. SO, while my dad expresses me my keys, the car is a complete target for parking tickets. And even though I talked to the parking department and they assured me I'd be fine, I'm SO SURE I'm going to find tickets waiting for me.

Today I went to buy my textbooks. I went to the university bookstore since it's right next to my last class of the day. To begin with, they didn't have half the books I needed. Then when I went to check out, they informed me that they don't take American Express. My AE has a $400 limit that I'd left clear just for textbooks. So I ask the cashier to split the purchase up over two credit cards. I've been working behind a cash register at various places for the last 4 years. It's not that difficult. My first card goes through, and then the second card makes a message pop up telling the cashier to call the credit central and get an authorization code. That's no big deal; you do exactly what it says and the transaction goes through. WELL, this guy freaks out and starts pushing every button on the register. The computer fritzes out in the middle of my transaction, and it takes him forever to get someone over to help him out. They decide they have to do two separate transactions instead of using two forms of payment on one, because according to them, "You can't do it your way." Uh...yes you can. WELL, now my credit cards won't go through. The manager spends 15 minutes on the phone with the credit card company, and comes back and tells me they can't help me and I'll have to figure it out myself. I'm all worried that the $200 on the first credit card went through, since they never officially voided it, and she's sitting there telling me "fuck you, you lose."

I stormed out of there, shocked by their lack of customer service, called my credit card company to straighten things out, and went to the bookstore across the street. Spent $558.34. I have 6 classes, but ended up with 10 textbooks. Figure that one out. The bookstore across the street was much less crowded, cheaper, and the older people working there were so accomodating. Plus they took American Express. :)

*Takes a deep breath*

I'm okay now. Really.
